For Judy Hamilton it might have seemed early on that life was always going to be as pretty as a picture. After university she maintained her links with academia by working in an academic library as a qualified librarian.
In 1978 she was appointed the first woman registrar of a State Art Gallery anywhere in Australia. As the first female at that level she enjoyed the position of privilege revelling in the picturesque beauty her job afforded her. She stayed for an impressive 23 years and during that time assumed the role of Acting Director of the Art Gallery. Also in this period she journeyed the seemingly predictable path of love, marriage and motherhood and then the not so fun but rewarding role of single mum.
